Connecting Seafood
Buyers & Sellers

The BASE program has changed the fish market in Massachusetts. Instead of continuing with the inefficient practices of selling and buying seafood, the auction provides buyers and sellers with an orderly and open market, allowing for fair market prices for fishermen and access to predictable supplies of fresh seafood for buyers.

How It Works

Auction Electronic System

At the Buyer and Sellers Exchange (BASE), the Auction's Electronic system controls each transaction.

2

6 am Monday-Friday

The auction starts at 6:00 am Monday through Friday. All the products bought and sold are displayed in lots of 100 to 20,000 pounds and separated by species and size.

3

Unloading

The direct unloading of the fishing vessels takes place each day between the hours of 11:00 pm through 4:00 am the next morning. Once it arrives, the product is immediately weighed, boxed, iced, and ready for the next auction day.
